Luton Long-Distance Development Meet – January 2008

Luton Swimming Club is holding a “No Frills” Long-Distance Development Meet at Wardown Pool, Luton on Saturday 5 January 2008. The primary objective of this meet is a last chance to gain 2008 County qualifying times.

All Bronze and Silver Squad are encouraged to enter, as is everyone needing 200m and 400m time trials. No qualifying times are required to enter this meet therefore all swimmers may enter (put NT for No Time on your entry form if you have no entry time). Swimmers are expected to target County QTs during the Club Championships in November but this meet offers a second chance. If in doubt, please check with your coach.

Entry forms must be fully completed including ASA Registration Number, which is printed on your plastic ASA Membership Card. If this is not available, please ask at the Club Desk or contact the ASA Membership desk directly on 01509 618765, as entries cannot be processed without it. Experienced competitors may check their number on the ASA rankings database (enter club code MBDT and select an event that you have swum at a licensed meet). Entry cheques payable to Flitwick Dolphins SC as usual please (£3 per event). All entries to Nicola Simmons or Nigel Halford by the strict FDSC entry deadline of Monday 26 November.

Wardown is a 33.3m pool and hence all results require conversion to standard 25m short-course times required for entry to the County Championships. Several calculators and conversion tables are available to achieve this.

updated All entries have been accepted. Please collect your cards from your coach as soon as possible.

Session 1: Warm-up and post cards by 12:30pm.

Session 2: Warm-up and post cards by 5:15pm.

Please bring warm clothes for poolside to keep warm; just a T-shirt is not enough! You need at least track suit bottoms (not just shorts), a jacket over your t-shirt and trainers (clean). Please bring only a small bag on to poolside with essential items, (Towel, Drinks, snacks, spare goggles, hat and costumes) so there is room to sit on poolside. There are lockers available on poolside and in the changing rooms for your big bags to keep your clothes dry to go home in!

If you are swimming in both sessions please try to bring a second set of clothes to wear on poolside: if your clothes get wet in the afternoon they won’t keep you warm in the evening session. To keep drier and warmer bring costumes for warm-up and change into racing costumes straight after warm-up before you put your clothes on. Make sure you have plenty of drink (water or weak squash) at least one 750ml bottle per session and a packed tea for between sessions.
