Gareth Jeans Gala and Junior League "Warm up" – May 2006

Flitwick Dolphins Swimming Club competed in both the Gareth Jeans Gala in Dunstable and a Junior League “Warm-Up” gala in Leighton Buzzard at the weekend.

The swimmers taking part in Dunstable performed outstandingly taking 25 firsts, 10 seconds and 10 thirds, storming to an overall victory. Coach, Diane Brinkler commented: “Fantastic! Your hard work is now really beginning to show. You looked professional last night from the warm up to the finishing finale of the only Squadron team to go under two minutes. You took on board a lot of the little tips and were making sure you went into turns first and came out first to finish first in 50% of the programme.”

Meanwhile in Leighton Buzzard the 9 year old Girls’ Freestyle and Medley relay team comprising Megan Underwood, Clara Neary, Kelsey Bassett and Kayleigh Russell won both their events. Kayleigh, 9, also finished 1^st in the 25m Freestyle and Butterfly, as did Megan in the corresponding Breaststroke event with both girls setting new Club Records for their Age Group.

Aran Chamberlain-Clark, 11, dominated the Boys 50m Freestyle event with a comfortable win in 32.65 seconds, not only exceeding his Personal Best but setting another Club Record. He also won his corresponding Butterfly event. 11 year old Jack McGarry swam impressively in the 50m Breaststroke and Backstroke events finishing both half a length ahead of his fellow competitors.

The Dolphins, many of whom were taking part in their first competition, also scored points for several 2^nd and 3^rd positions and are now looking forward to Round One of the Milton Keynes & District Junior League next month.
