Leighton Buzzard Observer & Citizen Trophy Gala – June 2006
Flitwick Dolphins competed in the Observer &
Citizen Trophy Gala at Leighton Buzzard last weekend and in spite of finishing
4th, picked up 10 speeding tickets throughout the competition.
The
Girls Freestyle Relay Teams all swam brilliantly scoring maximum points for 1st
place in the 11 and under, 15 and under and the Ladies Open Age Groups.
Holly
Barber performed a superb 50m Breaststroke taking 2nd place setting herself a
new Personal Best. Colin Weighell, 10,
won the Boys 11 and under corresponding event with a new Personal Best for
himself too. He also picked up a
speeding ticket for his 25m Butterfly and set a Club Record in doing so.
1st
place was also achieved by Rhianydd Jones in the 100m Backstroke and Sarah
Haslett in the Ladies Open 50m Butterfly.
12 year
old Toby Willson swam an impressive 50m Freestyle swimming to victory in just
32.24 seconds exceeding his Personal Best and setting a new Club Record for the
event.
Loren
Chamberlain-Clark and Sarah Haslett also smashed their Personal Bests in the 50m
Butterfly and 100m Backstroke respectively coming 1st in both events.
Leah
Neary narrowly missed out on two 1st places in the 13 and Under 50m Backstroke
and 50m Butterfly by picking up speeding tickets for going too fast, however
she exceeded her Personal Best in both and set a new Club Record for the
Backstroke. Likewise, fellow swimmer
Charlotte Beck, who, on the eve of her 12th birthday swam up to compete in the
Ladies Open 100m Individual Medley and 100m Freestyle, also gained speeding
tickets and set Club Records in both events.
2nd
place was awarded during the gala to Georgina Stewart, Thomas Winder, Isabelle
Martin, Hannah Scotchford, Joe McGarry and also the 11 and Under Boys Freestyle
Relay team comprising Joe McGarry, Harry Wilson, Connor Beck and Colin Weighell
– obviously compensating for all the evening’s speeding tickets.
Speeding
tickets were issued to both Girls and Boys, 13 and Under Freestyle Relay Teams
for finishing faster than the upper cut off times.
The
evening closed with an exciting Squadron Relay made up by Georgina Halford,
Colin Weighell, Leah Neary, Carl Halford, Hannah Scotchford, Simon Weighell,
Sarah Haslett and Nigel Halford, with all swimmers providing an outstanding
performance finishing in an extremely modest 2nd place.
