Flitwick Dolphins ASA Timekeeper Course – September 2009

Flitwick Dolphins will run an ASA Timekeeper Swimming Officials Course this Spring jointly with Modernian SC. The course consists of one classroom theory session followed by a practical assessment on poolside and will be controlled by the ASA County Organiser.

It is vital that ASA qualified officials are available to support swimming competitions from licensed meets to league galas and club championships: competitive swimming cannot take place without them. Becoming an official gives parents the opportunity to become more involved with their child's swimming progress — and is much more enjoyable than spectating! The Timekeeper qualification is the first rung on the revamped ASA officials ladder and is easily achievable by all with a little practice.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old and must be members of the club. Swimmers, committee members and helpers probably have club membership already; non-members must complete a pink multi-part ASA registration form to receive their ASA membership number, which is required in order to register for the course. Pink forms are available from Ian Murray, Sue Gilbertson, Sharon Neary, Phil Winder or from the Club desk. You may wish to refer to the ASA Guidelines. Please leave the last section blank and return your form as above, explaining that you wish to register for the Club Timekeepers course. The Committee has agreed to waive your annual club and ASA membership fees on the understanding that you are available to support the club as an official when required, and the Club will pay the course fee.

Please confirm your application to join the course by notifying Sharon Neary or Phil Winder. Please tell us your ASA Membership number as soon as possible because you cannot be registered for the course without it — you may need to telephone the ASA Membership Team on 01509 618727 to avoid a delay in receiving it. ASA Membership numbers may be checked here.

The club has some basic digital timers but you may wish to consider purchasing your own. There are many different makes with various features — choose one with a clear display that you are happy using. A clipboard is also very useful.
