Beds ASA County Championships – March 2007
A triumphant Flitwick Dolphins squad rounded off last month’s Beds ASA County Championships in style, with a haul of 47 Gold, 37 Silver and 39 Bronze medals in total. Competitive spirit was evident throughout with close rivalries over the three weekends of the Championships being settled in the sprint races of the dramatic final sessions.

After a sparkling display from the whole squad, Dolphins crowned four County Champions this year. Isabelle Martin was victorious in the Girls 10 years BAGCAT category and Hayden Davies triumphed for the Boys 10 years with Christopher Murphy narrowly missing out on third place. Georgina Halford brought home Bronze for the Girls 11 years, whilst a close battle between David Allen and Colin Weighell saw both just miss out on the Boys 11 years podium. Charlotte Beck dominated the Girls 12 years category with an awesome will to win, and Leah Neary claimed fifth place in a very strong field. Dolphins also won Gold in the Boys 12 years with Tom Winder taking Gold and Aran Chamberlain-Clark winning Bronze. After a very close result in the Boys 13 years, Simon Weighell took Silver, just missing out on the top step on the podium.
Victory in individual events during the final sessions was claimed by Charlotte Beck (50m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke, 100m Butterfly, 200m Freestyle, 400m Freestyle), Aran Chamberlain-Clark (100m Butterfly), Hayden Davies (50m Freestyle), Georgina Halford (100m Butterfly), Aled Jones (400m Freestyle), Isabelle Martin (50m Backstroke, 200m Breaststroke, 200m Freestyle, 400m Freestyle), Simon Weighell (50m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle, 100m Medley) and Tom Winder (50m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke, 100m Medley, 200m Breaststroke). Rhianydd Jones, Simon Liddle, Christopher Murphy, Kayleigh Russell and Louise Simmons took Silver whilst Leah Neary and Colin Weighell brought home Bronze.
Sam Tilbury broke her S13 200m Freestyle British record by six seconds, and set an S13 400m Medley British record and an S13 800m Freestyle World record (subject to official ratification). Aled Jones just missed adding the 400m Freestyle County record to his 800m record. After performing at the top level for a decade, he is now considering retirement from competitive swimming after the National Championships. Aled was crowned 400m Freestyle Senior Champion and Charlotte Beck took second or third place five times in Junior and Senior cups over this weekend.
