Flitwick Dolphins Swimming Club

TAKING MEDICATION

Flitwick Dolphins has a Fair Play Policy to promote the message that the use of prohibited substances or methods is cheating, which will not be tolerated.

It is very important for all swimmers taking any form of medication to ensure that they do not accidentally take a substance that is banned, because this could have severe consequences for them, as well as being unfair.  Asthmatic and diabetic swimmers will need to register their medication, however many "over the counter" remedies contain banned additives, and some medication is permitted only in particular doses and circumstances.  Particular concerns arise with multivitamin pills or other supplements.

For these reasons, all swimmers taking any form of medication must declare it in writing to the British Amateur Swimming Federation.  A form may be downloaded here or a multi-part paper copy obtained from the Club desk.  A fresh declaration must be completed annually and a reminder will be sent to all swimmers enrolled on the database.  It is the swimmer's responsibility to notify any changes of medication arising during the year.

Several web sites offer further information including lists of banned substances and possible exemptions.

It is not necessary for Dolphins swimmers to apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE/ATUE) other than in very exceptional circumstances, which will be advised following registration.

If any swimmer is unsure what to do, please ask for guidance at the Club desk.
